Our Facilitator

This teen group is on the southeast side of Denver, Colorado and is led by our Founder Lena McCain, MA, LPCC. Lena has her Masters in Clinical Mental Health: Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University. From the Southwest to the Great Lakes to here, she has worked with teens of all different beliefs systems from all over the nation for over 12 years. Lena has both witnessed AND experienced the excitement, the confusion, and the overarching curiosity that comes with discovering who we are and who we want to be as we navigate our adolescence.

Together, Lena and this teen group will create a safe but brave space to explore those big questions as well as foster a life-long community.

FAQs

+ What is Teen Spirituality?

Teen Spirituality is our teen group that has been created WITH teens, FOR teens! This group promotes supportive spaces for teens 13 - 17 years of age to grow and explore who they are as well as who they want to be as an individual and as part of a community. Together, we'll cover a wide-range of topics that are relevant, informative, and healing. Such topics include exploring identities, personal values, boundaries, and healthy relationships.
This group is for teens who:

Struggle with self-identity
Feel anxious or worried
Have fears about not being good enough
Have felt alone or out of place
Are looking for new or more, supportive friends
May have or have had self-injuring behaviors
Need a greater understanding of their impact on others

+ How can a Teen Spirituality group help?

Teen Spirituality blends core life skills with cultural rituals and traditions to help teens learn more about their own perspectives, opinions, and beliefs. This group is structed into six 60 minute sessions:
Session 1:
We create our safe, but brave space by developing our group norms and group agreements, participating in light-hearted activities and ice breakers, and even making a few collaborative music playlists.
Session 2:
We discuss the importance of identities with an emphasis on becoming aware of our own identities and the questions that surround them.
Session 3:
We examine how our identities directly tie to the varying beliefs we do and do not hold, learning about the effects that those beliefs have on the decisions we make each and every day as well as what kind of boundaires we have or want.
Session 4:
We learn about our personal values by naming and navigating how we respond to different personal and social situations, ultimately analyzing our current behavior and whether it serves us in who we want to be as individuals.
Session 5:
We gain a better understanding of what we need to align physically, emotionally, and mentally in order to develop healthy relationships given our identities, our values, and our boundaries.
Session 6:
And finally, we reflect on what we've learned together so that we can let go of what has been holding us back while taking with us what we need to foster our personal growth.

+ Is there a minimum amount of sessions I have to pay for?

Yes, there is! Because of the nature of this group and the type of conversations we have, we ask for a financial commitment to all six sessions. This ensures that this group will continue to meet all participants needs throughout their time together.

+ Is this group part of a specific religion or belief system?

No, this group is not a part of a specific religion or belief system. Teen Spirituality follows the same perspective that all of Interfaith Bridge Counseling does, which is that of the interfaith perspective. We define interfaith as the exploration and bridging of various beliefs, traditions, cultures, and/or faiths. As more and more youth are being raised as interfaith, and more adults are identifying as interfaith, people are examining how these varying identities impact them intrapersonally and interpersonally.

Finding the type of people that will share their thoughts and beliefs without pressuring them? It almost seems impossible. But that’s why our teen group exists - to give YOU - the safe space to discover who you are as an individual and who you want to be as part of a community
